Hyundai has revealed the launch date of its new-generation Hyundai Verna. According to the automaker, the new Hyundai Verna will be launched at a media event in Chennai on August 22.

In the mid-size sedan segment, the new Verna will continue to take on the Honda City that recently received an update and the Maurti Ciaz that will see its first facelift early next year.

With a generation change, the Verna is claimed to have more fuel efficient engines, a richer cabin and offer better drivability. While the new generation model follows the same Fluidic Sculpture 2 design language, the exterior styling has been revised with significant cosmetic updates. The key design changes include projector headlamps with LED DRLs, a cascading grille, revised bumpers, new diamond cut alloy wheels, re-designed LED taillights, LED indicators and new roof spoiler.

Hyundai has used advanced high-strength steel (AHSS) body structure for the new Verna that improves its torsional rigidity by 32%. The company claims that the steering feel of the sedan is now better than before. The new model features wider stance and longer wheelbase, thus making it more spacious for occupants. The boot space has also been increased by about 16-litres.

Inside, the new Verna has a more driver-centric dashboard layout and a pack of high-end connectivity and comfort features. A new 7.0-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility has been reserved for the high-end variants. While the dual airbags and ABS are likely to be standard on the carline, the six airbags and ESP will be available only on the range topping trims.

As far as engines are concerned, the new-generation Verna will come with two powertrain options – a 1.6-litre Dual VTVT petrol and a 1.6-litre U2 CRDi VGT diesel. Hyundai claims that NVH levels of the new Verna are extremely low than the current generation. The suspension unit have also been tuned for achieving better high-speed stability and cornering.
