Hyundai will be launching its 2017 Hyundai Verna very soon and while all the details about the launch and the car haven’t been revealed, we have put together all the information we can find for you from the web.
The 2017 Hyundai Verna is similar to the current generation and will continue to carry Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy while sharing most of the design and styling bits with the current-gen Elantra. Spied images of the model infer slight difference in visual terms between the India-spec Verna and the global model. One must note that the basic silhouette and most of the design elements will be carried over from the previous model.
The 2017 Hyundai Verna receives an all-new design with comprehensive updates including projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights inspired by the new Elantra up front, Hyundai’s quintessential cascading grille with chrome accents, revised bumpers, new bonnet with bold character lines, horizontal fog lamps, a new set of alloy wheels, LED tail lamps and new boot lid.
Interior of the new 2017 Verna will surely be richer and more upmarket than the current model. The touchscreen infotainment system could have been borrowed from the Solaris. The infotainment system will support navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay compatibility and Android Auto.
The feature list will also include an automatic air condition controls and engine start stop button. On the safety front, the new-generation Verna will be a step ahead of the outgoing model. Features such as dual front airbags, ABS with EBD will be standard across the range. While six airbags and a rear-view camera will be reserved for the high-spec trim. The altered proportions carve out more space for the occupants seated inside.
Engine options for the new Verna will remain unchanged. The sedan will continue to source its power from the 1.4-litre & 1.6-litre petrol & diesel powertrains. Choice of transmission on the carline will include the same manual and auto units. With copious changes expected on the sedan, the new Hyundai Verna price is likely to change upwardly, though prices have already been revised in line post GST. Therefore, it is unlikely to witness stark change on that front.
2017 Hyundai Verna India Launch Date
The third-generation Verna, which is already on sale in Russia and China, will soon make its way to India. Though the South Korean carmaker hasn’t yet revealed the exact launch date, the sedan is likely to see a release in the third quarter of current year. Media reports indicate that the sedan might see a release on August 22, 2017.
2017 Hyundai Verna India Pricing
With comprehensive aesthetic exterior and interior changes, the new-generation Verna will surely be a lot better product than the current one. Feature-wise, the sedan will be more loaded and premium. However, things under the hood will remain unchanged. It will continue to come with the same engine options. All these updates might take a toll on the pricing of the sedan. That said the prices of the new 2017 Verna are likely to start from Rs 9 lakh for the entry-level model to go up to Rs 14 lakh for the high-spec trim.
2017 Hyundai Verna India Specifications
No mechanical changes will be made to the car. The new-generation Verna will retain the current 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol & diesel engine options. While power and torque figures of all the powertrains are likely to remain same, Hyundai might calibrate them to achieve higher fuel economy. Currently, the Verna petrol derives its power from a 1.4-litre and a 1.6-litre unit churning out a top power of 105bhp with 135Nm and 121bhp with 155Nm torque respectively. Transmission options on offer will be a 5-speed (standard on petrol trims) and a 6-speed manual (standard on diesel trims). In addition, the saloon will get an optional 4-speed automatic gearbox on the 1.6-engined diesel variants.

While the 2017 Verna will carry forward the same engines from the current model, though the fuel efficiency is likely to slightly better than the outgoing Verna. The South Korean carmaker might tweak the motors to make it more frugal. On the new generation model, the 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol units are estimated to deliver fuel economy of 18kmpl and 17kmpl respectively. On the other hand, the estimated mileage for the 1.4-litre diesel unit is 25kmpl opposed to the 19kmpl for the 1.6-litre engine.

The 2017 will not only receive design and styling updates, but it will also sport altered contours to make more space inside the cabin. Compared to the current generation, the new Verna will be 15mm longer and 29mm wider. The wheelbase has also been stretched by 10mm to 2,580mm, implying more space in the cabin. Proportionally, the new Verna measures 4,385mm in length, 1,729mm in width and 1,450mm in height. In addition, the sedan is bound to get heavier by 10kg than the current model.

In line with other Hyundai cars, the new Verna will be designed on the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design tenet. The new model will uses an updated chassis made up of high-strength steel. This will make the car lighter as well as stronger than the current model. Thanks to the changed suspension mechanism, the 2017 Verna will have improved dynamics and handling. Most of the styling changes will be made in tandem with the new-gen Elantra. The sedan will also receive dimensional changes, making it 15mm longer and 29mm wider than before.
Face of the saloon has been revised with a cascading grille, projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights (DRLs), new bonnet, reworked bumper, pentagonal LED fog lamps and sculpted bumper with central air-dams. The side profile is accentuated by a new set of diamond cut alloy wheels, a sloping roofline, chrome door handles and blacked-out C-pillar. In a bid to revamp the rear look, the 2017 Verna gets redesigned taillamps with LED elements, LED turn indicators and a new integrated roof spoiler.

Inside the cabin, the new Verna will pack styling updates including a new design for the dashboard. The car will also receive a large touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity options including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror Link. In addition, the infotainment system will also support voice recognition, app-based navigation. One must note that these features are already available on the global-spec model.
While the base trim in the carline will miss out on the 7.0-inch touchscreen, it will instead receive a smaller 5.0-inch colour TFT LCD instrument display. Expected to pack in more features, the new Verna will come loaded with power-operated driver’s seat, heated front seats, leather seat covers and multi-functional steering wheel. With respect to safety, the saloon will be equipped with standard dual airbags, ABS with EBD and all disc brakes. Safety equipment such as rear view camera and six airbags will be reserved for the top-spec variant in the carline.
